In the action-adventure novel "Alanna: The First Adventure" by Tamora Pierce, the protagonist Alanna spends a great deal of time lying. Unlike other characters in the book, Alanna seems to have no trouble lying at all – lying to her tutor, lying to her friends, lying to her teacher. At one point she even lies to a man who is about to be executed for a terrible crime he did not commit. Of course, Alanna does not seem to think lying is all that bad; in fact, she comes to realize that it can be better than the truth.
